The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers are the 2017 Chooks-to-Go PSL Grand Prix champions.
The Cargo Movers won their first Grand Prix title at the expense of the Petron Blaze Spikers, 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The newly-crowned champions exacted revenge on their recent All-Filipino Finals opponents. Last conference, Petron prevailed over F2 Logistics in a classic title showdown. Now with imports in tow, the results have been reversed.
Maria Jose Perez, who consistently powered F2 throughout the conference, displayed her fine form from the get-go as she finished with 24 points. Cha Cruz played a stellar game when it mattered most as she chipped in with 13 attacks and three service aces for 16 points. Kennedy Bryan and Majoy Baron added 12 apiece.
F2 banked on their solid defense to prevent Lindsay Stalzer from getting her usual numbers as she ended up with just nine points. Bulk of the load was left to Hillary Hurley who tried to single-handedly save Petron with her 25 markers.
The Cargo Movers carried over their momentum from their inspiring five-setter comeback victory in Game 2. They heated up early and quickly grabbed the first two sets to push Petron to the edge.
Facing a two-set deficit, the Blaze Spikers tried their best to recover. With Hurley leading the charge, they took a late 24-19 edge in the third period. Cruz saved a set point and stopped the bleeding for F2. But a Ces Molina block gave Petron the set and a fighting chance in the contest.
F2 Logistics surged to 4-0 in the fourth set. Petron inched within one before the Cargo Movers pulled away again and made it 10-6, capped off by two consecutive points from Cruz.
The Blaze Spikers slowly crept back in but failed to gain any momentum. F2 continued their dominance and built as high as a seven-point cushion. Hurley, however, refused to give up and sparked Petron’s rally that cut their disadvantage to three, 20-17.
Cruz delivered from the service line before a 1-2 play from Fajardo brought F2 to match point. Perez then clinched the championship with a kill over Petron’s blockers.
