Team Liquid opened the first Dota 2 Minor like a true champion — they did not even let Mineski nor SG-esports have a good day of Star Ladder i League Season 3 as they stomped both teams 2-0.
The first series was a surprise for the community, as the up and coming SG-esports destroyed Vici Gaming 2-0. This is even after Vici Gaming revamped under the duo of Ren “eLeVeN” Yangwei and Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng to go with Chinese star Zhang “Paparazi灬” Chengjun. SG-esports even went for an Arc Warden pick in Game 1, where Guilherme Silva “Costabile” Costábile wrecked through all of Vici Gaming. This knocked Vici Gaming to the Lower Bracket.
The next match was Team Liquid facing off Southeast Asia’s hottest team, Mineski. It looked very promising for Mineski come Game 1, as the team were able to secure a 7,000 networth lead in 30 minutes against an Alchemist. However, Team Liquid just outclassed Mineski in the upcoming fights while Mineski over-committed on Amer “Miracle-“ Al-Barqawi’s Alchemist for quite too long that he was able to create enough space for the rest of his team. Team Liquid still took the game after 44 minutes, and then proceed to stomp Mineski in 21 minutes for Game 2.
For the last series, it was an Upper Bracket berth match-up for Team Liquid and SG E-sports. However, the two one-sided games were both about Team Liquid re-introducing the Chen into the meta: for Game 1 they used the hero to counter the Necrophos, while for Game 2, they used to counter the Venomancer. In both games, the Chen provided a lot of sustain and a lot of snowball push, and it took less than an hour for Team Liquid to advance to take the 2-0 and advance to the playoffs.
