The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters defeated the Mahindra Floodbuster in overtime, 99-95, to win their second straight game in the 2017 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday evening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Shawn Taggart had an all-around performance for the Elasto Painters with 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia was glad they also got contributions from their local players. Beau Belga and James Yap scored 12 apiece, while Jeff Chan and Raymond Almazan had 10 and nine points, respectively.

“With Shawn kasi he tried to get all the players involved. I told him naman na that we know he can score, but in this conference we have to involve everybody. We can’t rely too much on the import,” said Garcia.

The Floodbuster gained an 86-80 lead after Gary David buried a triple at the 2:34 mark of the fourth period, part of a 16-3 run by Mahindra which saw David score 10 straight points. In the ensuing plays, a Belga jumper and Chan’s two conversions from the stripe trimmed it to two.

White knocked down a jumpshot as Mahindra took a four-point edge, 88-84, with a 1:31 left in regulation. But Rain or Shine made four straight free throws to tie the game. White had a chance to win the ballgame for the Floodbuster but missed as time expired.

Late in the overtime period, a three-pointer from Chan gave the Elasto Painters a 97-93 lead. Two freebies from White cut the deficit in half, 1:25 remaining. But Taggart made a jumper on the next play to push Rain or Shine up by four again. The Floodbuster had a chance to inch closer after Raymond Almazan was slapped with an unsportsmanlike foul with 56 seconds left, but White muffed both charities and Jason Deutchman missed a triple as the E-Painters held on to take their second victory in as many games.

White paced Mahindra with 29 points and 21 rebounds. David added 13 off the bench, while Pedrito Galanza chipped in 10.

The Floodbuster now hold a win-loss card of 0-2.
